Hello Requinnzious, Im part of a team called PortMaster. We port over games to multiple handheld linux devices running custom versions of Linux. Phantasy Star RL is a very cool game and quite challenging at the later floors and I have enjoyed it quite a bit. I would like to ask if you would allow us to distribute the data.win file. Otherwise gamers would have to download the game on itch.io and add the file manually. I look forward to hearing back from you, if you are interested in PortMaster, here is a link: https://portmaster.games/

Cheers!

Sorry for the late reply, but yes that sounds great! I'm glad you enjoyed the game; I need to take another crack at the concept some day

Thank you! :)

Never knew about this project. Thanks for sharing it! Also appreciate you asking permission before just listing it. Wish the 'Retron' team got the hint and respected devs as much as you do :)

If you want players to use non-standard keys to play your game, at least display them on the tittle screen. It's not normal when you press Enter in a menu and nothing happens.

But during character creation, suddenly it's no longer W and X (that's another thing: millions of people do not use a QWERTY keyboard)!

Ok buddy, super harsh critique of a freeware indie game tbh.

Out of every keyboard layout and country listed below, which do you fall into?

  • QWERTY – United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and other English-speaking countries.
  • AZERTY – France, Belgium, Luxembourg.
  • QWERTZ – Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Croatia.
  • Dvorak – Primarily used by a small group of typists worldwide, no specific country.
  • Colemak – Used by a niche group of typists worldwide, no specific country.
  • JCUKEN – Russia, Ukraine, and other Cyrillic-based regions.
  • Hangul (Korean Layout) – South Korea, North Korea.
  • Chinese Keyboard Layouts (Pinyin, Cangjie, Zhuyin) – Mainland China (Pinyin), Taiwan (Cangjie, Zhuyin), Hong Kong (Cangjie).
  • They're kind of right, considering at the time of release the controls weren't even on the page lol. At the end of the day it was a game they wanted to play <3

The lack of clear controls on day one would be an oversight that should be mentioned, but again FREEWARE INDIE GAME.  Nobody is paying for it so no need to be super harsh about it.  Be polite and cordial to the devs who work tirelessly to make something awesome.  If you paid money for it then feel free to never hold back and let em have all the critique thrown in their face, HOWEVER this is a freeware game and not even f2p but ACTUAL freeware.  A rare gift in this day and age.

"Hey dev I noticed the controls aren't listed and it is difficult for those without a QWERTY keyboard layout to play, so requesting the controls be listed and rebinding capability be put into the game thx"

Doesn't take a lot to be polite.  People forget that online.  These kinds of hostile hateful people towards indie devs are the reason that 'gamers' get such a bad reputation.  Be better than that.

I really do appreciate the response and I completely understand where you're coming from, but the comment was directed toward me and I was not offended by it. In fact, this is criticism I was already willing to take after some of my friends had playtested the game and were confused by the controls. This individual likely changed their binds after posting the comment and moved on, but that was still a negative gaming experience for them, and one that they helped other people avoid by commenting. If I hadn't done playtesting, this comment may have been my only clue that the controls were awkward/ inconsistent at times.

They may have been a little annoyed, but I didn't read the comment as hostile or hateful. I got thick skin! I don't need sugar coated criticism, OC's tone was fine.

Thank you btw. You're clearly very passionate about the game/ indie development. Have a good one
